I'm not much of an expert, but I would also look for more life and physical resistance to reduce the chance of being killed by those massive hits. Even if you decrease your chance of being hit to 10% you still might get hit and die pretty often. It doesn't really help against fatal hits which will kill with you mostly 1hit or take a lot of your life pool at once. Defense just increases the chance of not getting hit.
